Getting started

Before you start, make sure you have these four things.

Have a pen and paper nearby, too. During setup, Homing shows you a recovery key to write down or print.

Common questions

What is Homing?

Homing moves your crypto from your Kraken account to your own wallet, such as a Tangem card. You pick the coins, check the details, and approve with Face ID or your fingerprint. Homing does the rest.

Does Homing hold my crypto?

No. Your crypto goes straight from Kraken to your wallet. Homing never holds it, not even for a moment.

What's an API key and why does Homing need one?

An API key is a special code from Kraken. It lets an app do a few set things in your Kraken account without your password. Homing's key can only check your balances and send to wallet addresses you already saved at Kraken. It can't trade, and it can't add new addresses.

Where do I make the Kraken key?

On kraken.com, in a web browser like Safari or Chrome. The Kraken app can't make API keys. Use the same phone or computer you'll use Homing on, so you can copy and paste the key. Check only Query and Withdraw. Our Kraken key guide walks you through each step.

Where do I find my wallet's address?

Open your wallet's app and pick the coin. Tap Receive, then copy the address it shows. Next, go to Kraken, choose Withdraw for that coin, and save the address there. Kraken will email you. Approve the address from that email.

Why is my first send a small test?

The first time you send to an address, Homing sends a small test on its own. The test is Kraken's smallest withdrawal for that coin, plus Kraken's withdrawal fee. It's designed so that if something is wrong with the address, only the small test is at risk. When the test shows up in your wallet, tap My test arrived in Homing. After that, the address is verified for full sends.

What does "Address not verified yet" mean?

It means you haven't sent a test to that address yet, or you haven't told Homing it arrived. Tap Send home to send the small test. When it shows up in your wallet, tap My test arrived. If a test never arrives, you can send another one 2 hours after the first.

What's the network fee?

The network fee is what Kraken charges to send a coin to your wallet. It comes out of the amount you send. Homing shows you the fee and how much will arrive before you approve. Homing charges nothing for sending during the beta.

What's the least I can send?

Kraken sets a smallest withdrawal for each coin, and takes its fee on top. Homing shows this on Home as "Minimum to send" under each coin. If you have less than that, the coin shows "Not enough to send yet" and moves to "Can't be sent right now". Your first send to an address, the small test, is exactly this minimum. For XRP and Stellar (XLM) the test is at least 1 coin, because a brand-new wallet on those networks only opens once it receives that much.

Is there a most I can send?

Yes. Kraken limits how much each account can withdraw. The limit depends on your Kraken account and resets over 24 hours (and over 30 days), not at midnight. Coins bought recently with a card or bank transfer can also be on hold at Kraken for a few days. If Kraken's limit is lower than your balance, Homing shows "Most Kraken allows right now" and sends that much. You can send the rest later. To see or raise your limits, open Settings and then Limits at Kraken.

How long until coins show up in my wallet?

Usually a few minutes. Bitcoin can take up to an hour. Sometimes Kraken holds a withdrawal to review it. If that happens, Homing tells you, and you can check your Kraken account for details.

What if I lose my phone?

If you use an iPhone with iCloud Keychain turned on, you may be able to sign in on your new iPhone with Face ID as usual. If not, use the recovery key you wrote down or printed during setup. Open Homing, tap Lost your phone or can't sign in?, and enter your email and recovery key. Homing then helps you set up Face ID or your fingerprint on the new phone.

What if I lose my recovery key?

If you can still sign in, you can make a new recovery key in Settings. If you've lost both your phone and your recovery key, email support@gethoming.app. You would set up Homing again with a new Kraken key. Either way, your crypto stays in your Kraken account until you send it.

Is it safe?

Homing is designed so that nothing is sent without your approval (Face ID, fingerprint or passcode), and Homing only sends to addresses saved at Kraken that you also confirmed in Homing. Your Kraken key is encrypted on your device, and Homing's servers never see it unlocked. Homing also locks itself after 15 minutes of no use, or after 1 or 4 hours if you choose that in Settings. Read how Homing protects your account.

How do I get an invite, and what does it cost?

Homing is $200 for your first year, then $100 a year. Ask for an invite on the home page with your name, email and Venmo username. We'll send you a $200 Venmo request, and once it's paid we'll email you your invite link. Your license year starts the day you sign up.

What if I have two wallets for the same coin?

That works. Save both addresses at Kraken and confirm both in Homing. Each one gets its own small test the first time. When you send, Homing picks an address that has already passed its test, and you can switch to the other one on the review screen before you approve. To split coins between two wallets, send part to one (say 50%), then send the rest to the other.

How do price alerts work?

Open the Alerts tab and tap Add a price alert. Pick a coin, then type a price, type a percent change (like +25, or -10 for a drop), or tap a quick pick (+10%, +50%, +100% or +1,000%), and save. Homing sends a notification to your phone when the coin reaches that price. Each alert goes off once; you can turn it on again from the list. On iPhone, notifications need Homing on your Home Screen: in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. Homing checks Kraken's prices every 30 seconds, so a very quick spike can come and go between checks. Alerts only tell you a price; they aren't advice to buy or sell.

Which coins and wallets work?

Any coin you hold at Kraken that Kraken lets you withdraw, as long as its address is saved at Kraken. Any wallet works too: a Tangem card, a Ledger, a Trezor or another wallet. Homing only moves crypto, not cash. Please note that transfers can't be reversed, so check each address carefully.

Why can't I sign up from my state?

During the beta, Homing is open to US residents only. California and New York have their own rules for crypto services, so Homing isn't available there yet. We're working on it and will let you know when that changes.
